The deafening silence is disrupted by a sound of footsteps against the pavement.
It's the midst of a drought, and in the middle of this oddly chilly night,
A girl appears at one end of a deserted street.
She is running, running, her expression hard and angry, but her eyes sparkling weak and weary.
It reminds you of a dam holding back an endless ocean.
You can tell by the sound of her footsteps that she'd been running some distance - that at the middle of the street, her run slowly descends, descends, until finally, a halt.
She bends over and rests her hands on each knee, catching her breath.
The sweet scent of her breath swirls in with the evening mist rising up, up in the air until it rests next to the stars.
It reminds you of a cloud.
Her every gasp becomes louder and louder that for a moment, you'd think the ocean she was holding back would suddenly just... burst.
It reminds you of tidal waves drowning out the calmness of the night.
Instead, she takes one last long breath through her lips and stands back up.
She's still wearing that hardened expression on her face, and her eyes still sparkling.
It reminds you of a mirror, and a river lying secretly on the other side of it.
But this time, she looked quite more reserved. As if clouds have parted and she can finally see.
As if she had made up her mind about something extremely important.
And, with the slightest hint of smile etched at the top most corner of her full lips, she turns around.
Slowly, and ever so gently, she starts shifting her feet to face the direction she had come from.
And she waited.
She stares at the other end of the street like she was waiting for some one to appear.
Like she was sure some one would appear - she waits.
The wind blows and the oddly chilly evening air painfully kisses her cheeks.
And she waits some more.
Until finally.
Another set of footsteps against the paved street comes echoing into the night.
Her hair blows against her face, softly embracing it, and she knew.
Suddenly the hint of smile on the top most corner of her lips melts into the kindest and happiest smile you've seen.
And then a crack.
A single drop of tear comes rolling down her left cheek.
It reminds you of a crack in a dam, and something just tells you...it's beautiful.
Because she knew. Oh, yes she knew.
She couldn't run away from him any longer.
And it reminds you of something beautiful,
Like flowers blossoming in the spring.
